DoubleDown's Blackjack Tip - 1st Edition

Over the next few weeks I will try to educate the public on the best strategies to win consistently (or lose less consistently) at the greatest casino game in the world....blackjack. You might ask yourself, why would I take gambling advice from this dope? Well i'll tell you why good sir, because I was the two time runner-up on the World Blackjack Tour and I once took the Bellagio for $2.3 million. Well, none of that is actually true, however I have logged many many hours at the tables and I can spot stupid play! Enjoy!

Learn Basic Strategy - We have never seen anything more frustrating than sitting at a blackjack table with someone that has no idea how to play the game. If you see some moron splitting 20's or hitting 16's against the dealers 6................LEAVE QUICKLY! Basic strategy is Blackjack 101, it is the basis for what the pros use to stay in the black against the casinos. Most casinos will even help you out by selling basic strategy cards in the gift shop. These cards give the player a hand-by-hand count of what you should in each situation. I usually just leave the table when I see this type of player.... some Rhino Nighters enjoy yelling at them.

  1. If you have played blackjack for any length of time, you would know that what other players do at the table has zero long-term bearing on how you do. If a player takes a card when (s)he shouldn't, it could help you just as easily as hurt you. It may be frustrating when a player does not use basic strategy and you lose a hand, but it could go the other way just as easily. Unless you are a card counter and the count is negative, leaving the table accomplishes nothing. Any player who has been around for a while knows this.

  2. Thanks for reading the post.. there will be more tips to come. I underdstand what you are saying, however... I disagree with your opinion. Basic strategy is essential, not so much for the players and the cards we receive, but the cards that the dealer receives... if people are hitting when the dealer has a "bust" card and they shouldn't be... you then effect the entire table by giving the dealer a chance.

  3. LOL

Thanks for the tips. Of course you split 20 - if the dealer turns a bust card, and most especially if he turns a bust card and the deck is thick with paint.

C'mon. If you want to give lessons, be serious about it.

  4. Did I really just read a comment where someone said you should split 20? I hope I never play at the same table as him!

  5. Thanks for the post Jay B ... check out what the "Gaming Guru" Al Krigman had to say... http://krigman.casinocitytimes.com/article/why-you-split-9s-but-not-10s-in-blackjack-5419 ... in the blackjack world, it is universally know you never split a winning hand. I hope you enjoyed our new site!
