The “Who Gives a Scheiße” Bowl!

The 2010 NFL Pro Bowl is upon us! I’m sure you all have big plans tonight that revolve around this All-Star of All-Star games. What’s that? You’d rather watch three straight hours of C-SPAN or the Grammies? I don’t blame you; the Pro Bowl is a joke.

This year the NFL is trying something new by having the Pro Bowl the week before the Super Bowl in the same city as the big game. In my opinion, all this move does is make the game even more irrelevant by preventing some of the best players from both conferences from playing as they have more important things to worry about, like winning the SUPER BOWL.

So as you can guess I probably won’t be tuning in for the game tonight. Now the big question is how does the Pro Bowl rank with the other major sport All-Star games every year?

Here is how I see it from best to worst as far as All-Star games go:

# 1 - BaseballI would say of all the All-Star games, baseball is the only one I tune in for every year. This game has the most tradition behind it and has proven to produce the most dramatic moments. Though I may not agree with it, Commissioner Bud Selig’s decision to have home field advantage in the World Series hinge on the outcome of the game has made it even more meaningful.

#2 – Basketball
I’m not a huge NBA guy, but I will say the NBA All-Star game is the most entertaining. The players don’t take it too seriously, especially on the defensive end, but they do try to put on an entertaining show for the fans which is what it’s really all about.

#3 – FootballYou are probably surprised that football isn’t dead last, I’ll get to that in a minute. Despite the hate I spewed to open this post, here are the Pro’s for the Pro Bowl.

- I’m aware that it happens every year
- It means the Super Bowl is only one week away!
- Cheerleaders
- Occasionally there is a big time hit, like when Sean Taylor leveled Brian Moorman on a fake Punt attempt.

#4 – Ice HockeyFor all I know the Hockey All-Star game is the greatest thing ever. Hockey looks awesome in HD. It’s just gotten to the point now where I don’t even know when it is, what channel it’s on or who’s in it. It’s become irrelevant until the playoffs for the casual fan like myself.

Agree, disagree? Let us know by leaving your comments!

  1. Pro Bowl is pointless in my opinion.

  2. NHL All-Star game has even less defense than the NBA, which means high-scoring hockey, and everyone loves high-scoring hockey.

Nascar's All-Star race at Charlotte is usually good times too because of the small field and weird rules they run it with - always some slicing and dicing.

And remember, no one actually likes baseball.
